What is Fields of Grace?

Fields of Grace is a group of volunteers who partner with area farmers and Second Harvest Tri-Cities to provide fresh produce for area residents in need. These volunteers are trained in the etiquette and techniques of safely harvesting crops. Each volunteer must complete a liability waiver prior to gleaning produce in area fields and orchards. This produce is then distributed to area food banks by Second Harvest Tri-Cities.

What Is Gleaning?

Gleaning is going over a field or area that has just been harvested and gathering by hand any usable parts of the crop that remain.

How to Get Involved

Gleaning volunteers must attend a training session and sign a medical liability release form before gleaning. If you are interested in finding out when the new training session is, check the event calendar on www.fields-of-grace.com. You may also register for an upcoming training session at this site.

Biblical Basis for Gleaning

When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 19:9–10 NIV.

When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
Deuteronomy 24:19 NIV.
