Music at West Side Church

Music at West Side Church is an integral part of our worship experience. You can enjoy uplifting contemporary music led by our Worship Team or a more traditional sound with organ, piano, and Choir, depending on which service you attend. Occasionally we cross the bounds of these styles to provide our congregation a rich, full music experience. Other music groups participate throughout the year in leading worship on Sunday mornings.

We currently have a contemporary service at 8:15 a.m. and a more traditional service at 11:00 a.m. Beginning in September, 2007, we will be adding another service at the 11:00 hour. Contemporary services will be held in West Side South at 8:15 and 11:00 a.m., and a traditional service will be held in West Side North at 11:15 a.m.

Adult Choir Adult Choir
The Adult Choir provides music leadership from September to June. We sing a wide range of musical styles from classical to contemporary. Occasionally the Choir presents special music programs, notably around Christmas or Easter. An added benefit of the Adult Choir is becoming part of a close, caring fellowship. The Adult Choir is open to high school age through adults; no auditions are required. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights, 7:00–9:00 p.m. in the West Side South sanctuary. Contact Phyllis Goecke, 946-8111, for more information.

We are seeking a permanent, part-time choir director for the new 11:15 traditional service. Please see the position description (PDF) for more information.

Worship Team Worship Team
The Worship Team provides music leadership all year round. Comprised of guitars, drums, keyboards, and vocals, the group rehearses on Thursday nights, 7:00–9:00 p.m. Membership on the Worship Team is by invitation or audition. The approximately 20 musicians in this ministry are scheduled on a rotating basis to cover the full church year. Musicians interested in being a part of this ministry are encouraged to contact Sarah Franco, Director of Music Ministries.

Handbell Choir Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir is comprised of experienced ringers from mid-high age to adult. We have several sets of "parent/child" members participating. Rehearsals are generally held on Sunday afternoons or evenings from September through March/April. Besides participating in Sunday Worship Services every 6–8 weeks, the Handbell Choir performs around the community at other venues such as retirement homes, hospitals, shopping malls, and other churches. If you are interested in this ministry, contact director Debbie Mellinger.

Pathfinder Children's Choirs
There are two Pathfinder Children's Choirs - one for grades 2–3 and the other for grades 4–5. These choirs meet as part of the overall Wednesday afternoon Pathfinder program for children that runs from September to March. The individual Pathfinder Choirs help lead in worship every 4–6 weeks. The older Pathfinder Choir occasionally presents a musical during the year.

Cherub Choir
Our smallest and youngest musicians are the preschoolers in the Cherub Choir. The Cherub Choir sings together as part of Sunday School every week throughout the school year. Every 4–6 weeks, they participate in one of the Sunday Worship services—usually at 11:00 a.m.

Brass Ensemble
A brass ensemble meets together occasionally to rehearse special music for worship. The participants range from mid-high-age to adults. The brass ensemble is capably led by Susan Eberlein.
