Missions

"...to lead West Side Church in becoming and being a Mission Church."

About the Missions Program

“Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done, and proclaim that His name is exalted.” (Isaiah 12:14)

The Missions Council administers the missions program, including management of funds budgeted and/or designated for missions. This is guided by our core values and includes:

  • activities which stimulate support of mission causes based on prayer.
  • promotion of opportunities for members of the congregation to participate in mission projects, including deputation trips and local volunteering.
Current Initiatives—2007 and beyond
  • Habitat for Humanity: volunteer and financial support for this program.
  • Manna Project: satellite ministry to reach Hispanic children and their families in Pasco.
  • Mission Perspectives Course: fall, 2008. http://www.midcolumbiaperspectives.org/
  • Moment for Mission: three-minute spotlight and prayer during worship service on supported missions.
  • English as a Second Language: classes and support for refugees.

Tutoring Program

Tutoring sessions are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. to academically challenged 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders attending Marcus Whitman Elementary School. Tutors and children eat a light breakfast together before the children are walked over to the school. Students are recommended by their teachers to participate in the program.
