The Missions Council is guided in its work by certain values that have been developed over time to express our corporate experience, wisdom, and commitments in mission.
These include:
Relationships & Partnerships: West Side builds and sustains ongoing relationships of support and partnership in mission efforts around the world according to the call of God and the people and opportunities He gives to us.
Evangelism & Service: both are equally valued and needed to produce effective Christian mission. West Side seeks to give priority to integrated, wholistic missions that nurture and strengthen the local church or community and spread the Gospel.
Unreached Peoples: we value and support missions that create Christian witness where there is none and that strengthen Christian witness where it is in serious decline.
Indigenous Leadership & Movements: we value the leadership of nationals and seek to build ongoing relationships and partnerships to help them and serve with them in their missions in their context.
Sustainable Community Development: we seek to provide and support mission efforts aimed at both sustainable social transformation through community development efforts that align with indigenous leaders' assessments of needs and appropriate solutions, and also at the redemption and transformation of individuals.
Marginalized & Vulnerable: we seek to be engaged in missions in accord with biblical imperatives to care for the poor and disenfranchised, to restore dignity, offer hope, and provide help that makes a lasting difference.
Call & Training: West Side sends people who are called by God to become missionaries or to serve on short-term mission teams. We seek to provide the best training possible for these teams and ongoing support, encouragement, and training as needed to our long-term missionaries.
Risk & Sacrifice: we value the cost of discipleship in cross-cultural missions. West Side seeks to provide support to people who risk the discomforts and challenges to serve and who make significant personal sacrifices to make Christ's love known in the world.
